Wit and Wisdom is inviting suggestions for what Nick Clegg's nickname should be. Ming was Merciless, Cameron calls himself Dave, and Gordon is not Flash, so what should Nick be?
I'd like to be the first to suggest "Tosspot". Nick "Tosspot" Clegg does have a certain ring to it and would bring back into fashion what has become a much-maligned swearword. Re-engineering this phrase for the 21st Century would mirror what the party is trying to achieve with the Liberal Democrat brand, and thus make a fitting way of communicating our new, modern liberalism.
Not only that of course, but then the party could choose to be "a bunch of tossers".

Anyway, Cleggy already has a nickname, courtesy of his best mate Chris Huhne (or the anonymous researcher thereof). I think it's likely to stick, unfortunately.
Yes and if anyone was a 'tosspot' in the original meaning of the word it was Charlie Kennedy so probably not the most appropriate for Clegg.
Is the original meaning of the word to do with alcohol? I had no idea. Makes sense, but I'd honestly never thought of it before. I'd always assumed it had something to do with masturbation (probably by association with "tosser" - it'd be interesting to know if they're at all linked).
Bang goes the cosy consensus which was meant to follow the leadership election. I always thought the 'calamity' moniker was better suited to 'Clanger' Chris Huhne, who dropped more of those during the campaign than the somewhat bumbling Nick Clegg.
We've got to get more professional if we are to break away from being the cuddly, interesting but ultimately irrelevant third party. Hmm, is that coffee I can smell? Maybe others will wake up and get a whiff it too...
